Lorca, Melbourne CBD

A quote by Frederico Garcia Lorca

The quote is a line from a play by the Spanish poet, dramatist & theater director, Frederico Garcia Lorca, La Casa de Bernarda Alba (don't you just love Wikipedia search ? Hehehehee....)
So of course Lorca , located in the bustling Centre Place, offers Spanish and also Portuguese cuisine.
There are so many eateries to choose from in that lane, and we decided on Lorca because it looks warm & inviting and the foods looked yummy !
It was not only until I got back to Sydney and realised that another food blogger, John from He Needs Food had also went to Lorca in his last visit to Melbourne :D
See his review on this lovely cafe here.

Specials menu board ; Amazing coffee !

It took us a little while to decide what to have since everything written on the menu board sounds delicious. I myself was tossing between risotto or the portuguese chicken. Then common sense kicked, that perhaps half a chicken is not a good idea ROFL

The coffee is amazing !! The best one out of all the coffees I've drank during this trip. The flavour is really rounded, smooth and very creamy despite it being made with skim milk. I'm still dreaming of it...*mmmmm*..

Traditional Spanish Paella

Yep, that is a serving for one person. A small paella pan loaded with seafoods and vegetables. I took a spoonful from it and it was as good as it looked. The taste of saffron is quite distinct and the seafoods are real fresh.

Hablaneros

My friend was still quite full from the breakfast and the cupcake this morning, so she opted for something from the breakfast menu. The Hablaneros, scrambled eggs wtih roast yellow capsicum and sauteed spinach, encased in a corn tortilla with a side of fruit chutney, was a special of the day as it was not in the menu. She spotted it written on a small board on top of the pizza kitchen counter.
It reminds me of the Hungry Jack's Breakfast Wrap hehehehe...but of course this is so much nicer and healthier too. Well, except for the extra chorizos that my friend ordered on the side :P

Risotto with tiger prawn cutlets, fresh tomatoes & mushroom with wilted spinach
I usually avoid ordering risotto off the menu because so far either it's too soft or it's way too al dente for me.
Don't know what made me ordered risotto here at Lorca, but I'm so glad I did !
The risotto is cooked perfectly, there is still a little bite to it which is just perfect. Not to mention there were generous amount of prawns and mushrooms in the dish as well.
Because they use fresh tomatoes instead of canned ones, it made the dish rich yet fresh with a slight acidity from the fresh tomatoes.

If you happen to be in Centre Place, should give Lorca a try, if not for their food their coffees are a must !!

Dining in Melbourne laneways means there are more graffitis and in Centre Place there are the occasional musicians performing as well :)
Melbourne laneways are amazing !
